Senior Retirement Plan Administrator

Location: Remote

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Department Responsibilities:

The Plan Administration team supports all compliance aspects of Plan Administration including coordinating communication with internal team members, plan sponsors, participants, and referral partners to develop and direct the plan administration process, improving workflow processes, make program and policy changes, and meet regulatory requirements.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring the compliance and timely administration of one or more Group of Plans, including the ongoing and annual compliance work.
  • Collaborate, as a key stakeholder of Work Orders (correction projects), providing expertise on any plan related issues or corrections.
  • Develop and maintain plan operations and document process, workflow improvement initiatives, and program/policy changes.
  • Regularly review work performed by team members, ensuring accuracy and providing training and guidance on servicing company sponsored retirement plans.
  • Support the team’s work with annual compliance tests, trust accounts, asset accounting, 5500 and all schedules required including 5330 and 8955-SSA.
  • Proactively manage assigned caseload to aid LRS in achieving and exceeding client service satisfaction.
  • Proactively recommend and discuss plan design changes with internal partners.
  • Ensure client requirements are understood and work closely with internal partners to design, document, and ensure appropriate sign off on scope and solutions.
  • Manage and monitor workflow and progress of year-end work, ensuring all necessary data is requested and received to meet compliance deadlines and completion of valuation reports.
  • Keep department manager informed of sticky issues and proactively work to resolution.
  • Provide strategic and proactive support for DOL, IRS, and Large plan audits.
  • Assist with all compliance aspects of plan administration considering both balance forward and daily valuation environments.
  • Prepare and present valuations.
  • Collect, review and process census data to determine employee eligibility and participation.
  • Prepare and review projected and actual match and/or profit-sharing contribution allocations (age weighted, integrated, cross tested, etc.) based on client goals and needs.
  • Conduct coverage and non-discrimination tests, including controlled and affiliate service group considerations.
  • Calculate ADP/ACP refunds; recommend appropriate correction method and work with team members to distribute.
  • Review plan documents, understand retirement plan provisions and accurately apply rules to client and participant circumstances, including distributions, loans, and vesting.
  • Reconcile trust assets to participant accounts, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Determine RMD eligible, calculate and communicate distributions to be taken or waived.
  • Support our Client Experience Team as they interact and communicate with external clients regarding compliance and plan administration matters.
  • Assist our Client Experience Team with compliance aspects of Plan terminations and mergers.
  • Identify and work with large plan audits, including coordinating with service providers and collecting, assembling, and analyzing data.
  • Manage and monitor data collection and workflow for correction projects. Perform correction project work, ensuring that requirements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Calculate late deposit requirements accurately.
  • Support Plan conversions and deconversion.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 4+ years retirement industry experience required, preferably with defined contribution plans.
  • Expert knowledge of laws and regulations related to qualified plans and types of plan designs (IRS, DOL, ERISA, EGTRRA, PPA etc.).
  • Understanding of Plan Errors and working knowledge of correction methods.
  • Superb communication skills and a commitment to superior customer service.
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • Proficiently manages numbers and performs basic mathematical calculations with precision.
  • Solutions oriented mindset with the ability to handle changing and competing responsibilities in an emerging business, like Leading Retirement Solutions.
  • Possess a strong command of technology and adapt easily to new software solutions and tools.
  • Works well within a team, including remote and virtual team members.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to contribute creative ideas and forward-looking contribution to team activities and overall company progress.
  • Possesses a preference for action, avoiding workplace distractions, and driving performance targets to completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or certification in retirement plan, finance or related field preferred.
  • QKA, QKC, and/or QPA designation preferred.
  • MEP and/or PEP experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and use of FT Williams software and/or similar systems is preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The work environment is usually an indoor setting with infrequent exposure to outside elements. This position requires less than 5% of travel.
  • The person in this position occasionally needs to move about inside a home office environment to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a printer.
