Department Responsibilities 

The Accounting department oversees the timely and accurate completion of month-end close, forecast updates, and annual plans, including a focus on company costs and revenue. Work scope also includes exposure to leadership through involvement in regular business reviews and project management opportunities, focused on automation and increasingly efficient work processes.



Role Responsibilities 

This role will oversee the timely and accurate completion of month-end close, forecast updates, and annual plans, including a focus on company costs and revenue. This role will own all aspects of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, as well as support external audit and tax as needed. Work scope also includes exposure to leadership through involvement in regular business reviews and project management opportunities, focused on automation and increasingly efficient work processes. 

 


Essential Job Duties

The Staff Accountant is responsible for driving results in a fast-paced environment in the functional areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reporting and payroll, as well as in other accounting areas.

Oversee the operations of the company’s finance department including creating and reviewing policies, budgeting, training, and conducting regular assessments of financial procedures.

Process banking deposits and prepare bank reconciliations in a timely manner.

Process A/P among multiple entities. Analyze accounts to maintain A/P system for accuracy.

Perform monthly reconciliation.

Regularly summarize current financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, monthly post-close metrics and other reports requested.

Perform recurring activities including recording and posting financial transactions, managing bank feeds, reconciling and processing payments to vendors.

Monitoring accounts receivable and payable, providing insight and reporting around changes.

Invoicing clients, reconciling accounts, identify and correct errors that occur due to data entry. 

Supporting our company’s payroll process.

Assist with business and tax filings.

Complete comprehensive analysis of actual results against key financial metrics and budget targets, and identify management insights related to cost trends, required forecast updates, and potential cost savings initiatives. 

Responsible for the preparation of recurring account reconciliations, monitor and enforce compliance with tax and financial reporting standards, and assist with cash flow forecasting.

Contribute to weekly business review process by consolidating data inputs, managing report accuracy, and creating new content for management utilization.

Drive a monthly business review for leadership team, consisting of financial highlights, lowlights, and recommendations. 

Lead project(s) to improve internal current manual processes by systematizing cost reporting and forecasting.

Maintain documentation of the company’s financial status and forecasts.

Guide and manage 1-2 internal team members and external/outsourced parties by coordinating activities, answering questions and problem solving. 

Effectively perform these duties and responsibilities in a fully remote environment, coordinating with team members in 10+ locations.

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of strategic plans, annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and month-end close.

Additional duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.



Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

Minimum of 3 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience

Strong expertise of QuickBooks

Experience with analytical, managerial, and strategic support with recurring activities.

3+ years’ experience in financial analysis, financial forecasting, and/or budget management.

Passion for results; able to deliver full-cycle projects (start to finish) and results in a timely manner.

Highly organized, analytical, with keen attention to detail.

Ability to solve moderate to complex problems; resourceful and takes initiative to seek internal and external resources when problem solving.

Excellent decision making, conflict management, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Must have the ability to communicate professionally and effectively including strong oral, writing, and listening skills. Must have the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

Must be able to work independently as we are a fully remote company. This person may lead and manage a team of 1-2 additional team members as well as outsourced support.

Strong command of technology including QuickBooks, and ability to learn new software solutions easily and quickly.

Proficiency is required with Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat.

Experience with month-end close process, payables, receivables.

Ability to build scalable reports and dashboards for various audiences.



Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.

Experience in the retirement plan industry is preferred.



Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. 

The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is usually an indoor setting with infrequent exposure to outside elements. This position requires less than 5% of travel.

The person in this position occasionally needs to move about inside a home office environment to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a printer.
